Northwind Pharmaceuticals Expanding to Christian Park

Indianapolis, IN – Northwind Pharmaceuticals is announcing the acquisition of the property formerly known as the St. Bernadette Church and School, located in the Christian Park neighborhood of Indianapolis. The purchase is part of a more than $1 million expansion of Northwind’s distribution and repackaging operations. The development projects to bring 25 new jobs to the area.

“Bringing the former St. Bernadette Church and School building back to life aligns perfectly with our philosophy to leave things better than we found them,” says Phillip Berry, CEO of Northwind. “We are thrilled to be able to align our plans for expansion with the broader revitalization efforts of the near-east side of Indianapolis.”

Northwind plans to begin renovations in March 2018 and relocate all Indianapolis operations to the building later this year. Repurposing the building presents some unique challenges but the look and layout of the building will remain virtually unchanged. “Originally designed for educating students and supporting parish life, the building will accommodate our operations with little modification,” said Berry. “Our goal is to keep the look and feel of the property while maintaining a connection to the legacy of the St. Bernadette Parish.”

“Business development, creation and sustainability of jobs in the area, and utilization of beautiful and historic assets such as the St. Bernadette’s Parish is a tremendous win for the Christian Park neighborhood” according to Harlon Wilson, President of the My Christian Park Neighborhood Association. “Area residents have expressed their overwhelming support in a town hall meeting held this past summer.”

Northwind’s Berry had previous ties to the area and received personal support from local residents. “The St. Bernadette acquisition is one of many revitalization efforts to get underway in Christian Park. We are excited to welcome Northwind and its sister companies to our beautiful neighborhood and look forward to collaborative opportunities in support of their success and the success of the surrounding community,” concluded Wilson.

St. Bernadette’s Church and School was opened in 1952 and served roughly 500 families at its peak in the 1960’s. The school was closed in 1988 and the parish began sharing a priest with Our Lady of Lourdes in 1994. St. Bernadette’s Parish was officially closed and merged with Our Lady of Lourdes in 2014.
